Once again, you captured the idea perfectly. For us, the journey is sometimes more fun, more joyous, more intimate than the destination. It became moreso this summer with my daughter driving. That view you mention, the one from the back seat? It is amazing what you can see from behind.

John,
This was one 'bad-ass' post! How refreshing to hear these things from a man; some of you really do get it. I look forward to reading more from you and will be publishing links to you on my blog for ordinary, middle aged moms of tweens, teens, and beyond, www.justaminutemom.com.

Great points, Denny. The definition of man andasulinity have changed, all for the better. Somehow, I'm always heartened by the guys willing to shed a tear in my office, the New Men. They've been showing up a lot more lately! Thanks for writing!

John, I am so glad you got a "do over" with your Dad. Although my Dad was much different than yours, I have known many who felt it was their place to provide that somewhat mysterious removed ambiance as a sign of control...the "head" of the family. I think the evolution of Dads can be seen in men in general...as husbands, sons and brothers as well. Gratefully, over the years, men have been given permission to cry, wear pink and eat quiche...and STILL be considered real men! All of which have allowed them to be and share who they really are. Great article!
